Earlier this year, Little Bear was awarded funding through the American Rescue Plan Act. The Act created a package of $1.9 trillion dollars and is one of the largest economic rescue plans in the country’s history. It also provided immediate relief to American workers as a way to bridge the gap with economic recovery and reduce the amount of children and families in poverty.

The passing of the American Rescue Plan Act is one of the most progressive pieces of legislation because more than half of the payments also went to families making less than $90,000 per year. For more information about how the funds from the American Rescue Plan Act were distributed to small businesses like ours across the country, check out our sources here.

We have received half of our funding for operating expenses at $300,000 and will plan on receiving the second half in May for a grand total of $598,000. Twenty percent of the total grant funds will go to help families in the Little Bear community and beyond. Reno preschools like Little Bear rely on funding as a way to continue helping young students stay on the path to success.

As the students of our Reno preschool know, Little Bear has a play-based curriculum to foster creativity, imagination and self-reliance. It’s wonderful for our staff to be a part of the learning and cognitive reasoning that young minds develop as they prepare for elementary school. Through strong communities, children grow emotionally, intellectually and physically. Younger students are able to get a sense of belonging as a way to build their identities through an involved and engaged community. Learning how to tackle challenges, build friendships and knowledge while thriving can have such a positive impact on youth.

Another program at Little Bear and University preschools that will benefit greatly from the funding is our partnership with Healthy Way to Grow. Our Reno and Sparks daycare and preschool is dedicated to creating a healthy childcare environment for children across the state.

Our Reno and Sparks daycare and preschool are also partners with Healthy Way to Grow, a program dedicated to creating healthy childcare environments for children across the state. It’s a great benefit to attend our preschools and daycare centers because of customized training and tools for supporting healthier lifestyles.

Current national statistics show that a quarter of preschool aged children in the country are overweight or obese and show signs for developing heart disease, diabetes and other debilitating issues.

From everyone at Little Bear and University Preschools, we are very appreciative of the support and are thrilled to have thrived even during the low times of the pandemic.
