As a part of licensing regulations made by the state, there are set child-teacher ratios that are intended to regulate class sizes. This not only helps manage the size of a class, but also helps teachers provide better care for children and offers many other benefits. For instance, studies show that smaller child-teacher ratios may improve child outcomes, promote stronger teacher-child relationships, help reduce behavior problems in children, reduce teacher stress, and enhance the overall experience for both child and teacher. Take a look below for more information on child-teacher ratios and see how our Reno preschools implement them.

The Importance of Low Child-Teacher Ratios

There are several reasons that reduced class sizes are beneficial to children and teachers alike. Not only are low child to teacher ratios in Reno preschools good for your children’s education, but it also helps with their confidence and behavior as well. Here are some of the benefits of smaller child-teacher ratios in preschools:

  • Improves the quality of the educational program
  • Helps to improve the quality of child-teacher relationships
  • Alleviates some stress for both teachers and children
  • Lowers the special education placement rates
  • Reduces behavior problems with children
  • Provides better results among children’s education
  • There are more opportunities for children to participate in class activities
  • Children experience enhanced learning techniques
  • With smaller classes, children are also able to build better relationships with fellow classmates

Our Programs: Ages 2-5

At the Little Bear Preschools, we believe in keeping our centers small and personal to provide that “at-home” feel, while still emphasizing the importance of learning in the classroom. We’ve reduced our class sizes to reflect a 6:1 ratio for the 2 year old programs although state licensing requires a 9:1 ratio. Our ratio is even smaller than typical Reno preschools because we fully understand the need for smaller classrooms and realize the benefits this has for our teachers and for your children.

The same smaller-classroom philosophy also goes for our pre-kindergarten programs for children ages 3-5. While the state requires a 13:1 ratio, we keep these programs to a 12:1 ratio. Our early childhood educational programs offered at our Sparks and Reno preschools are designed to cultivate the overall growth and development of children through sound educational experiences. And with our smaller classroom sizes and reduced child-teacher ratio, children are more likely to grow and succeed in their future education and learning.

Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS)

Little Bear Preschool and University Preschool are proud participants of the Nevada Silver State Stars Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS). This model was developed to help Nevada families find high quality childcare that fits their specific needs and the needs of their children. Some of the benefits of attending preschools with QRIS standards are more formal health and safety regulations and better program policies and procedures. At Little Bear & University Preschools, we strive to be considered one of the best Reno preschools in the Northern Nevada area, and our low child-teacher ratios help accomplish this.
